Bi-metal features an edge made from high speed steel (HSS) attached to a flexible steel backing through an electron-beam welding process. This configuration results in a bit that makes precise cuts while resisting breakage. They are used on ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Oxide coating prevents chip building, galling and welding on the workpiece. It is commonly used on low carbon metals, stainless steel and ferrous metals.
